Search My Heart
I once heard a great preacher praying, “God save me from myself.” It made such an impression on me. This was someone I greatly admired and knew if anyone was ever a great Christian, this man was. To hear him asking God to save him from his own fleshly shortcomings was a monumental moment in my own life.
No one knows us like God does. We are at times our own worst enemy. We blame things on the devil that are really just our own selfish flesh at work. Another preacher said that you can cast out the devil, but you can’t cast out the flesh. We must recognize it when self gets in the way of our surrender to God. Our flesh must be put under subjection to the Spirit that dwells inside of us.
Pray this way, “Lord, help me take a hard look at myself. Help me realize that you are the only One who can reveal the deepest darkest things hidden away in the recesses of my heart. Save me from myself. Put your magnifying glass on my life and show me things that are displeasing to You. Search my heart and help me work through the process of being more like You. I want to please You more than anything else in the world. So purge me of the things that hinder my walk with You. I surrender every part of my heart to You today!”
Scripture Reading:
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
-Psalm 139:23-24
