Purpose to Change
Mark Victor Hansen, one of the creators of the Chicken Soup for the Soulseries said, “If you do things the same way you’ve always done them, you’ll get the same outcomes you’ve always gotten. In order to change your outcomes, you’ve got to do things differently.”
I was late for prayer every Sunday. It was a bad habit that just seemed impossible to break. With a new baby and new responsibilities, my time management was out of control. As I knelt down to pray with only a few remaining minutes before service, my heart was filled with guilt and condemnation. I confided my frustration to the pastor’s wife where we were assisting at the time. She lovingly gave me some amazing advice, “It may help if you just start thirty minutes earlier.” I was amazed that the solution could be so simple. The next week, I did just that. I set the alarm and started getting myself and my baby ready thirty minutes earlier. It worked! The outcome changed because I was willing to try something different. Do you really want to change? Then you must purpose in your heart to do something differently. Start today. Start a time of prayer, or begin that Bible reading you’ve promised you would start every year. Whatever the goal, why not dictate the outcome of life by changing what you are doing today?
Scripture Reading:
“God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I cleaned up my act, he gave me a fresh start. Indeed, I've kept
alert to God's ways; I haven't taken God for granted. Every day I review
the ways he works, I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together,
and I'm watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened
the book of my heart to his eyes.”
-2 Samuel 22:21-25 The Message
