The Future is Forward
I’m not a farmer, but I’ve seen pictures of fields being plowed with an ox or a mule. The one behind the mule has to concentrate on giving the animal direction to stay on course. If he stops, the mule stops, or he might head for the barn. If the farmer takes his mind off the row he is plowing and looks around where he has come from, he takes the risk of getting off track and making a mess of the furrowed row.
God is a God of the living. He is alive and moving. He is a God of progress. His ideas and plan will be far beyond ours simply because of His all-knowing power. He sees the beginning and the end. We must keep our course and follow His lead. We must frequently take inventory and see that we are moving forward. If we are not making progress, if we are stagnated in our relationship with Him, it will seem that we are sliding backwards, because He is always advancing. When He is moving and we are not, the distance between us becomes a chasm.
