Never Look Back
My father pastored a church in Pocatello, Idaho for over eighteen years. One thing I remember quite well was the occasion when he had a clock installed on the back wall. It was his intention that the preacher should be mindful of his time as not to wear out the saints of the most high. It was a good idea, but soon a little problem developed. Although he tried to be mindful of the time, on the rare occasion when he was rather long-winded, a few people would turn in their places, craning their necks to look back at the clock, a very annoying reminder for the pastor. It was not long before my father took care of that problem. During the next service when a few parishioners began their obnoxious practice of looking back at the clock, they promptly turned back around and with wide eyes looked straight ahead for the rest of the service. Just below the clock dad had posted a sign that read, “Remember Lot’s Wife.” The problem was solved!
Perhaps we should remember that little sign when we are tempted to look back. Keep your eyes on the prize. We have been promised an eternal place with Jesus. This journey is a good one, even without that promise, but thank God we have it! Keep moving forward and one day you will receive your reward.
